KNR 113 Spring 2009 Meal-Planning Project Instructions
20 points total: 18 for project and presentation, 2 for completion peer evaluation form on blackboard


You will SIGN UP for a group (3-4 students/group) for one of the designated “Case Studies” – there will be two independent groups assigned to each case study. You will sign up on the Wiki 5 webpage-follow the sign up link, and click in a box and enter your name next to your preferred group.

Each group will complete the following tasks:

  1. Create a 3-day meal plan for their designated case study
  2. Provide a “Grocery list” for their 3-day meal plan
  3. Each individual will complete the "Team Evaluation" report: In the ASSIGNMENT section on Blackboard

3 Day Meal Plan (GROUP PROJECT!)
  • Using MyPyramid.gov, you will determine the caloric needs and food group requirements for your case study.
    • http://www.mypyramid.gov/
    • Right menu: "Get a personalized plan" - enter in relevant information
    • Right menu: Print 1) Results and 2) Meal Tracker worksheet **You will use this information as your guidelines!

  • You will create a 3-day meal plan based upon My Pyramid’s recommendations
  • Each day will consist of 5 meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks.
  • You may use fast food restaurants 3 times throughout your plan, only once per meal (i.e. ONE breakfast restaurant, ONE lunch, and ONE dinner). They can be on the same day or different days.
  • You may not repeat meals (i.e. turkey sandwich for lunch on 2 separate days not acceptable)
  • Make food choices realistic!
  • Complete the GROUP EVALUATION FORM on Blackboard:Assignments

  • For each DAY your group will provide:
    • The total numbers of calories, grams (g) of fat, percentages of fat, g of carbohydrates (CHO), % of CHO, g of Protein (PRO), and % of PRO.
    • The number of servings from each food group

  • For each MEAL your group will provide:
    • The specific food, serving size, brand, kcals, fat g, CHO g, PRO g
    • The total number of calories, % of total caloric intake, total fat g, % of total fat intake, total CHO g,% of CHO intake, total PRO g, % of PRO intake
    • Servings from each food group

  • Your group will then provide a complete grocery list of your 3-day food log- be specific with brands.
  • Each individual group member will go to Blackboard:Assignments, then complete the Team Evaluation report
